Comments and Reactions to the Graz Conference 2020

Thank you for the wonderful feedback on the Graz Conference 2020. Here are some excerpts from the emails, chats and Twitter messages that reached us:

One of the best congresses I have taken part on. My congratulations to the organizers and to all participants for their relevant, important and innovative talks. They are very useful and practical - including the theoretical challenges (with the ideal goal of resolving almost everything everywhere through dialogue, cooperation, mutual acknowledgement, openness and historically experienced sense of social responsibility and solidarity).”

Estevão De Rezende Martins (University of Brasilia)

"Alois Ecker and his colleagues are to be congratulated on the remarkable achievement that this conference represents - at times I think there have been 150 of us from around the world - enacting the intercultural historical dialogue we're also reflecting on.
A privilege to be involved. Not sure whether to laugh or cry at the volume of additional things that I really must read and urgently that I have acquired as a result of today! Always a delight to engage in these conversations!"

“I would like - also on behalf of the International Society for History Didactics, of which many members were participating in this conference - to thank you, dear Bettina and dear Alois, your excellently competent team and, last but not least, the University of Graz very much for having spared neither time nor means to provide the international research community in the field of history didactics with such a great forum for international scientific exchange.
I am sure that the conference will be remembered by the community as a milestone in the history of its international conferences – and not only because it is our first online conference. There is no comparable conference in the last years that has been so decisively dedicated to international taking stock, balancing and safeguarding terminological and conceptual concepts in order to advance joint intercultural and international research. That brings s all a good step forward. Many thanks for this."

Peter Gautschi (Pädagogische Hochschule Luzern, Director of the Executive Board of the in ternational Blog Journal ‘Public History Weekly’)

"Thank you to the organizers for a great conference. The virtual space has made it far more accessible (for those of us who are privileged enough to have internet - an important point Dipesh) I hope the centre will continue with virtual seminar so the dialogue can continue. Thank you colleagues, I have learned a great deal from you all."

“Thank you very much again for this opportunity to participate in the Graz conference. It was an absolutely great experience - both intellectually and socially. I know on-line form has its challenges but also a lot of positive sides, with soooo many extraordinary people present and exchanging opinions in the chat immediately during the presentations. This was great!

"I am very grateful for the 4-day Graz conference organized and led by you! Beyond the awe-inspiring experience of listening to (and watching) the great Titans of historiography I especially appreciated the format of the conference! The expectation/possibility for all speakers to respond to every speaker within a session produced much more substantive discussions than if the Q&A sessions had been opened up to the audience straight away! The resulting comments and debates were positively thrilling and we went on and on reflecting on them afterwards during break times with my colleague here in Budapest. I feel very blessed by these 4 days of academic training-de-lux! Thank you for all your work!"
